Docent Program

"What a FABULOUS job your docents did! I can't say enough about how
impressed we were with their talents!"
Elementary School Teacher

Our Docent Program partnership continues to be the jewel in our crown with more than 200 students participating. Under the guidance of Coexistence Club & Docent Coordinator Dena Sturm, local high school students serve as guides for thousands of area elementary, middle and high school students who visit the exhibit every year—inspiring the younger students to more fully comprehend the messages delivered through the art and quotes through the use of Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS).

Through student-centered engagement techniques, docents help younger students arrive at realizations of their own about inclusion, kindness and respect.

Requesting a Docent Scheduling your student docent is quick and easy. Just click “YES” under “Would you like to have a student docent?” question when registering for your in-person field trip (virtual field trips automatically utilize docents).

Make-A-Day Of It! Participants If you are participating in the In-Person Make-A-Day Of It! Program, you must request a student docent for the exhibit.

"I recall back when I was in fourth grade, and I was one of the children who went on the field trip to Bayfront Park. I remember how grown-up the docents looked, and how confident and controlled they were when they spoke. I remember thinking how I could never be up in front of such a big crowd of kids and talk.
Now, it truly amazes me how I have filled the role I so admired at that age. I was shown that anything is possible. Being a docent at the Embracing Our Differences exhibit gifted me with confidence I never knew I had."

Special thanks to The Ringling Museum for providing comprehensive docent training for our high school students. Their in-depth approach to training has greatly enhanced the program and prepared our students to be leaders and educators at the exhibit!
