Walk a Mile in My Shoes

by: Cheryll Huck, Prince George, British Columbia, Canada

The depth of our differences are shallower than we think and the depth of our SIMILARITIES deeper than we acknowledge.

Artist Statement

“Walk a Mile in My Shoes,” came immediately to me when I was brainstorming for this project. It is an open statement that conjures up feelings of empathy and respect. We don’t know what it is like to walk in someone else’s shoes. I don’t exclude anything other than the boots to represent a soldier. I chose not to put a face to this soldier because it represents all soldiers, not just one. When I see these boots, I imagine the trenches that they were in. I imagine the miles they have covered, the blood that may have been shed, and the freedom that they fought for.
