Sticks and stones may break our bones, but WORDS online stay forever.

Artist Statement

Art has always been an important part of my life. Growing up with an artistic and creative family has left me with an ability to express myself easily through pictures and visual media.

The idea of “acceptance” is an integrity that I personally feel is considered overrated within society, specifically in school environments. As human beings we are naturally included to cringe away from differences.

However, being labeled by society hurts. Nobody wants to be stared at as “different,” or characterized by cruel names and crushed under the pressure of needing to “fit in.”

Sticks and stones may hurt, but words are worse.

It is only when society is able to maintain an open mind and an accepting heart that the hurt of sticks and stones and words will ebb, and the colors of acceptance will be revealed over the dullness of hate. It is important for all people to be able to feel comfortable in their own skin and to live a happy life; embracing our differences is the first step in achieving this for all people.
