Best in Show Student

by: Zach S., 10th Grade, Booker High School, Sarasota, Florida
teacher: Jeffery Cornwell

You don't have to give up what's true to you, for accepting what's different, what's groundbreaking, what's new. The key is an open mind.

Artist Statement

I believe we all have the ability to help each other change for the better. My work shows an individual unlocking another individual’s head and removing the hate and negative components. In essence, each and every one of us can help other people change their outlook from negative to positive. Yes, it might be difficult—but it is possible. The first step is to make that choice. The reason I choose vibrant colors was not to depict different races—but to show different individuals. The bright pink on the first character makes him the main focus of the piece. I wanted all four figures to look similar in size and shape so that the observer focuses on the overall meaning of the piece—rather than on each individual.
