Everyone Has Their Own Spot

by: Caleb Mathews, Warrenton, Virginia

It’s not differences that set us apart, it’s how we CHOOSE to view them.

Artist Statement

It’s hard to be the one who stands out from the crowd. I aimed to capture this idea using giraffes, which brings a child-like innocence into the piece. At the center of this oil painting you’ll see the most unique of the bunch who is much shorter and paler than the others. The others tower above as they ignore him and do their own thing, although some have turned and are beginning to notice. As you look closer at the work, you’ll see each giraffe has it’s own individual facial features, spots, and personalities. We are all different in our own unique ways which makes our world a better and more beautiful place. It is our humanity, acceptance, and love for others that unites us.
