New American Gothic

We don't need a perfect world, we need an understanding society.

Artist Statement

American Gothic is a painting meant to resemble the every day people of the United States of America. Grant Wood, the original artist, said "these are the kind of people I fancied should live in that house". Times have drastically changed from the Depression era and our country is diverse as ever. In Wood's own words, these are the kind of people I fancied that live in that house. My alteration to this piece is a statement stating that anyone of any background has the right to live and flourish wherever they are in this country. Not only can we embrace our differences, but we can also live happily while doing so.
