Artist Statement

I wanted to show the devastating effects of cyber-bullying in this piece of art, in a vivid and compelling way. The painting shows a girl who is carrying the agonizing burden of cyberbullying, which follows her even while she sleeps. The artwork's visual representation of the evil force coming from her phone, which represents the terrible nature of internet abuse, is its most striking feature. This invisible evil entity appears to pierce the girl with a dagger. The wounds caused by the violence are powerfully represented by emotional visuals. The artwork depicts the eerie memory of the inner sadness she experienced in the background. The wounds of the terrible words she saw before falling asleep. This art reflects the terrifying and systemic effects of cyberbullying by immersing the audience in the girl's terrible experience.
