"Having what others lack doesn't make you superior, and lacking what others have doesn't make you inferior."
quote by: Joseph Daniel Nii Armah Okai, Mong Kok, Hong Kong
As a teenage girl, I find myself constantly exposed to idealized and manipulated images on social media, and I can’t help but feel self-conscious. In this photograph, I used the yellow measuring tape to symbolize the suffocating influence that society and its unrealistic beauty standards have on us. The girl’s face is blurred because she is losing both her sense of self and confidence while striving to conform to these standards. She wants to break free from the overwhelming pressure, yet those around her treat her plea with indifference, downplaying it as if it were mere entertainment. Will society ever truly acknowledge her inner turmoil?
