Artist Statement

I wanted to show that all our differences, no matter what it is, are appreciated and embraced. My painting portrays six hands, each holding a ribbon that connects them together. The end of the ribbon is held by a dove, a symbol of acceptance, shown in a cage that is starting to break away. Each hand shows a different category of difference, such as scars and abuse, physical disability, age, culture, socioeconomic status, and race. Through this artwork, I hope to inspire others to join in, no matter how they are different, to hold the ribbon together as not just a people, but a community.
